Transfiguration Catholic Church History
In the mid-70s, about 75 families joined together twice a year for spiritual retreats in the North Georgia mountains. It was a gathering that, over the next twenty years, would become the ever-expanding and maturing religious community we now know as Transfiguration Catholic Church in northeast Cobb County.
About 45 families celebrated the first official Transfiguration Mass on November 13, 1977, in the banquet room of a local hotel. Through the years, this family has called “home” sites ranging from storefronts to a “tin tent” building more formally known as the Family Life Center.
Transfiguration was first pastored by Fr. Ray Horan. He was followed by Fr. Henry Gracz, then Monsignor Patrick Bishop, Fr. Fernando Molina-Restrepo and now, Fr. Eric Hill.
We have four Sunday Masses, one Saturday evening Vigil Mass, and over several different charitable, educational, and spiritual ministries and organizations.
Parish staff, both cleric and lay, work with hundreds of volunteers to meet the needs of our parishioners. Our growth has been remarkable, and indeed, we continue to grow. On June 22, 1997, we opened our new Parish Center, which accommodates our religious education classes, social functions, group meetings/activities, and parish administration facilities.
