June 4 – Trinity Sunday

June 4, 2023

Our Great Journey

Today we are celebrating the Feast of the Holy Trinity.  Our reflection is taken from the Second Reading today, 2 Corinthians 13:11-13.

The Trinity is the three Persons united as one God.  The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit so united in love and manifesting that love to all of humanity forever.  As St. Paul wrote to the people of Corinth to be in relationship with one another, the example of this perfect relationship we find in the Trinity.  Let us work to love one another and give thanks to the Trinity this week.

Things to talk about:

  • Which Person of the Trinity is it easier for you to pray with or to?
  • What are some images that come to mind when you think of God as the Father? as the Son? as the Holy Spirit?

Things to do:

  • Say a prayer to the Trinity.  Click here to learn one together.
  • Enjoy a Trinity themed dessert to celebrate the Feast of the Trinity such as Neapolitan Ice Cream, Tres Leches cake, or Triple Chocolate anything!
  • Families with children:  Learn about the Trinity using the different states of water. Learn how…

First Friday and First Saturday Masses

In the thirteenth century, a devotion to Jesus and Mary began under the titles of the “Sacred Heart of Jesus” and the “Immaculate Heart of Mary.” The heart is the source and center of life, and life flows out to the faithful from the hearts of Jesus and Mary.

It has been a tradition to attend Mass on First Friday and First Saturday. Read more…

First Friday Mass is celebrated at 9:00 am in the Chapel. First Saturday Mass will be celebrated at 7:30 am in the Chapel. The Rosary is prayed after weekday 9:00 am Mass and First Saturday Mass. Liturgy of the Hours are prayed before weekday Mass at 8:30 am.

(Please note, First Saturday, follows First Friday so the Saturday Mass is not always celebrated on the First Saturday of the Month.)

The schedule for First Friday/First Saturday Masses:

June 2/3

July 7/8

August 4/5

September 1/2

October 6/7

Our Great Journey

Welcome to our summer blog. We’ll be posting weekly with ideas for Living the Gospel at Home. The blog is meant to be interactive, so please share ideas, photos and resources that you tried at home. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the most meaningful.

The theme for this week is: “Called and Gifted,” based on John 20:19-23 We celebrate the end of the Great 50 Days which began at Easter. Jesus’ promise to send the Holy Spirit is fulfilled, we are never alone. After receiving the power and gifts of the Holy Spirit, the apostles immediately went out and preached Jesus’ message to everyone—even those who spoke other languages. Come Holy Spirit and empower us to be like the apostles and share the Good News with all, with our words, actions and love. Amen.

Things to talk about:

  • On Pentecost, we hear about the Holy Spirit enabling the apostles to speak in different languages. If you could speak any language, what language would you want to speak?
  • Jesus greets his friends by wishing them peace. In what way do you bring peace to your friends, families, classmates, or co-workers?
  • Why did Jesus breathe on his disciples?

Things to do:

  • Because Pentecost is the birthday of the Church, celebrate it just as you would any other birthday in your home—break out the cake and ice cream. Rather than singing “Happy Birthday,” recite a prayer for Pentecost. Most prayer books contain special prayers for this special day.
  • Wear something red. The color of the vestments worn by priests on Pentecost is red, to symbolize the love of the Holy Spirit, or the tongues of fire that appeared over the heads of the apostles on Pentecost. And don’t just stop at wearing red. Use a red tablecloth for dinner, eat off red paper plates, eat red foods, etc. See how many ways you can incorporate the color red in your celebration.
  • Read aloud the story of Pentecost in Acts 2

Summer Blog – May 21

May 21, 2023 – The Ascension of the Lord

Our Great Journey

Welcome to our summer blog. We’ll be posting weekly with ideas for Living the Gospel at Home. The blog is meant to be interactive, so please share ideas, photos and resources that you tried at home. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the most meaningful.

The theme for this week is: You Got This! Today’s Gospel, Matthew 28:16-20, is referred to as the “Great Commission”. Through the Great Commission, Jesus gives us the mission of the Church — to make disciples of all nations. Through our baptism, we all have the duty to participate in this mission. (CCC 1270). We’ve Got THIS! We love Jesus and want to follow His ways.

Things to talk about:

  • What comes to mind when you hear Jesus say, “I am with you always, until the end of the age”?
  • What are some ways you can help make someone a disciple?

Things to do:

  • Send off a paper lantern. Celebrate the feast of the Ascension by sending off paper lanterns into the sky! Lanterns can be purchased at a local craft store. Find a clear, open space with no obstructions such as trees or buildings. Be sure to follow all safety instructions listed on your lantern.

Our Great Journey – Week of May 14

May 14, 2023

Our Great Journey

Welcome to our summer blog. We’ll be posting weekly with ideas for Living the Gospel at Home. The blog is meant to be interactive, so please share ideas, photos and resources that you tried at home. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the most meaningful. I’m exited to make a Mary’s Garden this week.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing women in our lives, especially to our mother, Mary. We are always in awe of your “YES,” and your willingness to lead us to your Son.

The theme for this week is: Help is on the Way! based on John 14:15-21 Jesus prepares us that he will be returning to the Father, but help is on the way. He promises to send the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, who will always be with us.

Things to talk about:

  • Which of the 10 commandments is most challenging to you?
  • In today’s Gospel, Jesus promises the Holy Spirit will come, but that the world doesn’t know him yet and can’t see him. Is that still the case today? Why or why not?

Things to do:

  • Plant a Mary Garden for/or in honor of your mom or with your family… Read more…
  • A common symbol for the Holy Spirit is a dove. Look around your church today to see if you can find an image of a dove.
  • Make S’mores
One image of the Holy Spirit is fire, so why not make a sweet dessert over a flame? Put a large marshmallow on a metal skewer and hold it over a heated flame. You can use a fire pit, a grill, or even a gas burner on your stove. Be sure to follow fire-safety precautions with the flame. Once the marshmallow is cooked enough for your liking, put it between two graham crackers to make a sandwich. You can also add other pieces of candy to the sandwich! Get as creative as you want!
